Day 10: Chimborazo January 10th,2018

Once again, we started our day early. We did not have time to grab breakfast before leaving the hotel, so the hotel was kind enough to pack breakfast for us. Then we were on our way to Chimborazo!

It took a few hours to actually get there. Once we were there we met our tour guide for the hike! We all drove up the mountain on the bus first, since no one really hikes the entirety of the mountain, for that would be insane with the altitude and everything! Our guide advised us that we weren’t going to be hiking too far, since the altitude and lack of oxygen makes any physical activity on the mountain very hard to accomplish.
All of us made it to the first checkpoint of the hike (about ten minutes in) and that is where we took a group picture. We all continued to the next checkpoint, which was the lodge. Getting to this checkpoint was a lot more difficult!!! I had to stop several times to catch my breath. What surprised me the most was that although there was snow on the mountain, it was extremely hot out. I wore all of my winter clothes, expecting it to be extremely cold; however, I ended up taking off most of our layers during the hike!!
About 45 minutes later, mostly everyone made it to the lodge. Some people had to turn back for personal reasons. I myself, made it to the lodge but felt very nauseous. I ended up having a sweet green tea to calm my stomach and a quesadilla! Before heading down the mountain we snapped a group picture together.
Afterwards we headed back down the mountain and back onto the bus. A few hours later, we checked in our rooms at Quinta Colorada. This was by far one of the most people- friendly hotel rooms we stayed at during the whole trip. There was a swing set, zipline, lamas, chickens, and more. While checking in, we all took took turns on the zipline in the yard. Soon after checking in, we had our nightly meeting in Tait’s room. For this night Tait himself, gave a talk on energy!
Afterwards everyone but Victoria and Hunter went to dinner in the restaurant. I had steak, french fries and vegetables!!!! After that , I hung out with Aidan and Elana before heading to bed for the night.!
